Lee Musiker

I went to Carnegie Hall Wed. night to hear the pianist Pierre-Laurent
Aimard. I couldn't get a cab home, so ducked into Rue 57 on 57th and
6th. At the bar I met this gentleman, Lee Musiker. Very interesting.
He never let on who he was. He only said he was a "pianist". We
chatted for a half an hour. I told him my piano stories. Only after a
friend of his joined and I was introduced, did the friend let me in on
who I was really talking to. It was better to have not known. He was
into the anonymity. I think he was upset that his friend blew his
cover. He was very charming. NYC is such a small world. He was most
curious about my iPhone and the iPad. He had just attended the same
performance at Carnegie. I shared my opinions without realizing how
accomplished this fellow was in his own right. He agreed with me.
Sometimes New York is so glamorous.

Coco Chanel - 20th Century Icon at Home

Jack Caddell | November 21, 2010 at 8:43 pm | Tags: Icons of Design | Categories: Icons of Design, The Luxury of Comfort | URL: http://wp.me/p1c4gH-E

No one person changed fashion in the twentieth century than Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel. From orphanage to couturier, she singlehandedly pulled women out of the 19th and into the 20th century. At a time when working women were still a rarity, Chanel lived as she wished, dressed as she wished and scorned the social mores of her day.

Lesser known is her influence on interior design. For much of her life, she lived above her atelier at 31 Rue Cambon, Paris. Interestingly, there was no bedroom. She kept a suite at the Ritz, nearby, for that purpose. Had she not found her place in the history of fashion, she surely would have found it in the world of interior design. With no formal training, she created a suite of rooms that are today iconic to students of interiors. As in her life, she broke the rules and did as she pleased. What resulted was nothing less than magical.

Her sofa, designed by Chanel, is still made today. Both classic and contemporary, it looks at home here in her rooms, as well as in the contemporary apartment of fictional television sitcom character Frasier Crane.

To learn more about this iconic woman, there are several biographies and three movies that have been released in the last few years. She suffered many losses in her life, but kept her head held high. There are facinating video interviews with her from the early seventies. She speaks strongly and firmly. Emphatically and directly. A woman with an iron will and an unerring eye. A true Design Star. Here is a look at her apartment at 31 rue Cambon, Paris.

Article: Where does Google TV go from here?

What to do with a device that was sold with all sorts of promise that's been hamstrung? Why should we pay for a device that cannot provide the features that it came with? Suddenly it's a lame duck. I, for one, find it almost useless to me now. I want my $99.00 back.

Olbermann SUSPENDED

Reply-To: "Julia Rosen, BoldProgressives.org" <info@boldprogressives.org>

BREAKING: MSNBC has suspended star anchor Keith Olbermann following the news that he donated to three Democratic candidates this election cycle.

Sign our emergency petition to MSNBC. Tell them to put Olbermann back on the air NOW!

Over 55,000 people have signed. Please sign and pass this to your progressive friends.

Media are writing about this breaking story right now. The Associated Press already wrote about our petition and we're keeping others informed of the growing public outrage. Sign the petition here.

NBC policy does not prohibit employees from donating to political candidates. But MSNBC president Phil Griffin is miffed that Keith didn't get "prior approval" first. Seriously. His feelings are hurt.

Meanwhile, Republicans Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan also gave political contributions -- but are not suspended. It must only be ok for MSNBC employees to give to Republicans, not Democrats.

The Democratic Party sadly saw this week what happens when you alienate your baseTell MSNBC that if they want to keep their viewers, they must put Keith back on the air NOW!

Then tell your friends. Thanks for being a bold progressive.

-- Julia Rosen, PCCC

P.S. It's worth noting that Olbermann donated to 2 PCCC-endorsed candidates: House Progressive Caucus Chair Raul Grijalva (who was just declared the winner, after lots of PCCC help!) and Jack Conway in Kentucky (who sends his immense thanks to PCCC members). Good for Keith.

Paid for by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee PAC (www.BoldProgressives.org) and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. Contributions to the PCCC are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

In Protest, Chinese Artist Paints Self To OctoCamo Perfection | Kotaku Australia

Chinese artist Liu Bolin took the streets after literally being made homeless by the Chinese government. Suojiacun, an artists’ village in northeastern Beijing was torn down during the Olympic redevelopment. An interview with WhiteHot Magazine can be found here.

With the help of assistants, Bolin has achieved a Metal Gear Solid 4 optic-camo level of camouflage by painting himself to blend in with the foreground. In a series he’s called Hiding In The City, Bolin disappears into the urban landscapes of various cities. His photos haven’t been touched by Photoshop and there’s no camera trickery involved. The true meaning of his his art is up for interpretation, but if the first photo hasn’t rattled your bones, you must have the eyes of a hawk.
